Bobbi Arlo announced as first Eurosong 2025 finalist

It’s official! RTE has revealed the first act for Eurosong 2025. Bobbi Arlo will perform Powerplay at Eurosong in the hope of representing Ireland at Eurovision 2025 in Basel.

Bobbi Arlo is a vibrant singer songwriter from Dublin and has been named as Artist of the Year by Gay Times and Coca Cola.

She has been nominated for Song of the Year at the RTÉ Choice Music Awards and has performed at various festivals.

Speaking on the Ray D’Arcy Show on RTÉ Radio 1, Bobbi said she’s a big Eurovision fan, and is following what other countries are doing this year.

She also said she loves talking about Ireland’s 2024 entry, Bambie Thug: “There’s been such a Bambie effect on other countries, where they’re sending acts very similar to them.”

“It was so insane for an act like Bambie to be sent in the first place, because it was so different to what Ireland normally sent. And the community in Ireland and the music industry is so vast and so diverse, and I think it gave it the light that it needed – and I’m so excited to be the next step in that.”

Arlo also revealed she wrote “Powerplay” in just 15 minutes, adding that it doesn’t usually happen on purpose:

“If I sit down and I’m inspired straight away, it’ll come out in a half an hour… I have maybe 200 songs that I’ll never release, so for every 600 songs that you write and don’t like, there’s always one good one in it.”

Speaking on the staging for her song, she said that while the has to cross a “high bar” to compete with Bambie Thug’s staging in Malmö last year, she is “pretty confident” that her team can pull it off.

Giving one cryptic clue about her staging for Eurosong, she gave two words – Irish hooligans.

Bobbi will join five more acts in RTÉ studios on Friday February 7th on the Late Late Show’s Eurosong Special, to choose Ireland’s representative for Eurovision 2025.

You can listen to her song below along with her interview with Ray Darcy.
